Hi everyone. I watched a few youtube videos today and thought I had this all figured out, but it still isn't working. Here is a pic of the fire place. I'm trying to get the blower working.https://ift.tt/3kYsAzW bottom section opens to a compartment. I had watched a video where the fan back there blew air out. So I thought this would be a simple matter of getting down in there and making the fan work. I pulled it out and cleaned it (we recently bought the house and it looked like this hadn't been cleaned in 20 years). Here is how I set it back up. The red circle is the fan/blower (currently pointed out). There are two other wires in here that I don't know what they are. One was already connected when I opened it (blue circle) and one was disconnected when I opened it (green circle). They connect to the top of this compartment in the center, but it's not clear to me what they are for or if they should be connected. Maybe a ground? The blower itself is grounded to a screw in the frame.https://preview.redd.it/w2k3cr4p5jw51.jpg?width=2365&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5903fbbd76038f6bdd7ae0ce5a70952a145c7e42What are these for?Blower. You can see at the top some sort of grounding unit (?) that these other wires connect toOK, so this is where I am. I just started a fire and the blower is blowing air out the bottom, but the compartment is cold. So I'm obviously doing this wrong. I started thinking somehow I'm supposed to be pulling warm air down into this compartment, but I don't know how that would work. I watched a few more youtube videos and now I'm more confused. It seems like possibly I have this fan in backwards and it's supposed to be blowing inward or upward to suck cold air THROUGH this bottom grate. It's not clear to me where it would go though? There is a gap at the top as seen in first picture, but I'm not sure how the air is supposed to circulate from the bottom here to heat up and go through the top.One final picture. There are some horizontal metal tubes across the top of the inside (purple circle) where the fire goes. I suspect these are somehow involved in making this work (what else would they be for). But I can't figure out how a fan blowing from below is supposed to circulate air through these out the top.https://ift.tt/3mEd7pl anyone point me in the right direction? Is this a standard setup? maybe I started down the wrong path by starting with a video that blew out the bottom? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/3egN8kF
