As someone who uses Amazon Prime heavily (not just for shopping, but also for video and books), I was having a lot of hesitation about re-upping my annual subscription, given that I am currently unemployed. So I was excited to learn that you can receive 50% off the monthly subscription price if you're currently enrolled in an EBT (food stamps, TANF, etc.) or Medicaid program.

The verification process was easy and instantaneous, and I didn't have to wait until my existing yearly subscription ran out--they switched my rate immediately, and refunded me for unused portion of the annual subscription.

There's plenty to debate about whether or not Amazon Prime is a good budget decision at all, but at 50% off it certainly can tip the scales into making it affordable.
