I just purchased some rather expensive linen bedding (sheets, pillowcases, and duvet cover) that I'm hoping will last me many years and am confused how to go about washing them properly. I have asthma and a dust mite allergy and need to be able to regularly kill dust mites that may be in my bedding.
All of the literature for properly washing bedding calls for either washing it on hot (130 degrees F) or drying on highest heat for 20 minutes every 1 - 2 weeks. All of the tags on my linen bedding calls for warm water and drying on low heat.
I'm worried washing linen on high temperature settings weekly is going to prematurely wear out or shrink the fabric. Does anyone have any advice on this? I'm thinking I should just return the bedding and go back to using cheap bedding that I don't have to worry about ruining.
