Hi reddit! Me and my friend K planned on living together this school year (September-august). We signed a lease on a 3 bedroom house with K’s friend M. Everything was fine, until in March, M said she is transferring and needs to find a new person to live with us (subletting is allowed). She found a new subleaser named B who we FaceTimed and approved of. In June, B says she isn’t going to college anymore and is trying to find a new person to take over the lease. She said she would make sure her rent was paid if she couldn’t find anyone. She still has not found anyone. We also do not know of anyone who will take over her lease. Rent is due tomorrow and she has not responded to our messages this past week saying rent is due. What can we do if she does not pay? Our lease is jointly and severally liable (we need to cover her rent if she doesn’t pay). Our landlord is aware and said he is trying to find someone to take over her lease as well. I saved all messages between me and B.
