I'm in 2nd year at university currently staying at uni residence. Living in South Africa and further education is free if you apply for funding with the government. There is no loans so I don't owe anybody anything. (Debt free). The funding for my course will only apply for my undergraduate degree (3 years in total)
I'm thinking of becoming a tutor for my course next year (the deal with the university is, if you become a tutor you don't have to pay to learn for your honors (1 year)). Also thinking of becoming a tutor for high schoolers for a source of income.
This way if I do study in my honor year ("4th year") the only payment would be residence fees which my parents will be able to cover.
Do you think its worth it to study my honours straight after my undegraduate (this way not having to pay for the tuition fees) and then work afterwards and use the money I get from tutoring high schoolers to assist me for when I work (Do I invest it? Do I just keep it as a mini emergency fund?)
Or should I just work after getting my undergraduate and then later down in life pay for the tuition fees after working for a while?
My main concern is what I do with the money I get for tutoring high schoolers coz thats the most likely option ( I would like my honours straight after my main degree and hopefully get a part time job while doing so )
I'm not financially educated so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to just keep my tutor money in the bank or invest it in some form.
Thank you in advance!
