I was studying for the CFP exam and got derailed for a short season due to unexpected unemployment and have started a new tentative position as a financial advisor at a prominent insurance/mutual fund company in my city. It's quite sales focused and I'll have to pass all the exams which I'm also studying for now, and as great of an opportunity as it is for at the moment, I'm expecting an exit within 3-5 years. I would like to open my own firm in my city where there's little competition in terms of fiduciaries (of which I will not be while working here) but the ins and outs of practical day-to-day operations is something I'd like a handle on now.

Stuff like, how do I pick the right client? How much should I charge? How can I serve the underprivileged in my city without doing it for free? What programs/software/subscriptions would I need? How can I best form my own philsophy of business and better serve my clients? Are there resources or books in this regard for me to look into once I start getting a handle on my exams, or am I on my own? Thanks for everything!
