I recently got a hospital bill for an ER visit from over two years ago. I know I probably have to pay it but my question is about my financial assistance form they sent me. On the forms it is asking for my current financial info which wouldn’t qualify me for any discount but at the time of the visit in 2018 I was in college and made almost no money and would have qualified for the fee to be waived completely. I tried calling their billing department but of course they gave me all kinds of excuses as to why the bill came so late and claimed they had mailed dozens of notices to my parents house (this is the first one they received and I haven’t had mail sent there for over a year). Obviously they just want me to pay the bill in full so I do not want to ask them about it until doing more research. Am I responsible to pay the bill in full? In my opinion since the visit was in early 2018 the discount should be based on my 2018 income, it is not my fault they “were updating their billing system so it never got sent.” Also my insurance was billed but only covered a little less than half of it.
