We found out we have a old phone bill in collections with met credit. The last payment was mar 2015 so as far as I know it will be charged off next year. We still want to pay it off and offered them 50% of the balance but they don’t want to budge and say they will “escalate it “. I’m pretty sure by law they can’t sue because the statue of limitations is 2 years and the balance is $2000 so it’s hardly worth the lawyer bills for them. Any bargaining tips to get them to settle? Things we can say? Every place ive looked says not to bother paying the full balance because the damage is done to the credit which is why we offered half and expected them to counter offer.
