I know this isn't the crazy simple living kind of post that's normally on here, but I'm looking for ways to save money throughout my life right now and the two major luxuries I'm spending my money on right now is my home internet and my phone service. I am actively working on saving more on food, but I couldn't figure out a good way to avoid the mandatory $85/month home internet bill until today when I found the PDANet app for android. My cell internet right now is just 3Mbps which is usually fine on my phone and enough to even watch some youtube videos in 480p usually, but I'm still using the 50Mbps home internet for my laptop.
So far after starting last night, I can safely say I'm ready to cancel the home internet for good. I'm not able to do a lot of on the laptop with such a slow connection, but I can do all the very basic things I need like banking, searching, and working on any small tasks, but watching videos is hard and I kinda like that. It makes me less likely to zone out watching something stupid when I could be reading or working on a project.
The more I've been doing this, the more I realized I was just spending $85 for the luxury of watching youtube and Netflix. I'm not using a large amount of data at all per day on anything else (Less the 100MBs so far today) and haven't seen any noticeable dip in productivity from using the phone's connection.
I'm going to keep this up for as long as I can and hopefully I'll come out of this with a new mindset and more appreciation for these insane technologies we have now.
