I don't know how popular bubble tea is in other countries but I know in Asia and Aus (I'm Aussie) it's EVERYWHERE. A single 500ml cup is $6 AUD! So I've perfected my own recipe and now each litre of it that I make is less than $1. For a 500mL mug:
Boil 250mL of water and let it brew with 2 bags of black tea for 5 minutes. Once brewed, add 2 tsp of sugar (raw is best) and 2 tbsp of sweetened condensed milk. Stir. Fill with ice cubes to the top of the mug and stir.

You can buy bags of the tapioca pearls or "boba" at Asian supermarkets. Boil a bunch for 5 minutes, soak them in sugar water afterwards for 15 minutes, and store in the fridge. You can add them to any drinks you want!
I love bubble tea and drink it everyday, but 7×$6 is $42/week or $2184/year on beverages! Making it yourself easily makes it less than $1 per cup. I'm really happy that I can satisfy my craving without having to shell out so much cash.
