Disclaimer: I don't even require that the sheets meet the standards of "buy it for life". They could honestly only last a year or two, as long as they are amazing. I just want them to be comfortable.
My story:
I need to buy new sheets. For the past 5 or so years we've had these 600 thread count Egyptian Cotton sateen "JLO" sheets that Kohl's used to carry, when we originally bought them, we were at Kohl's and they were buy one get one get two free, and they were $140 king size sheet sets, and we happened to need new sheets at the time and so we were able to unzip one of the bags to feel them, and they met our standards so we bought them on a whim.
They ended up being the perfect combination of soft and that satiny/cool to the touch material. We'd had Egyptian Cotton high thread count sheets before but these were the only ones with that smooth, cool to the touch feeling.
Fast forward 3 or so years and the dog managed to rip the third and final set of these sheets. I immediately went online to buy more of the same JLO sheets only to find that Kohl's had discontinued the line completely and they had been selling them exclusively. I am the type of person who finds something they love and just buys it over and over again until I am forced into change, and it wasn't that time yet because I was able to buy 2 brand new sets of king size JLO sheets on ebay for $75 each, and I bought they have held us over until about a month ago when my husband was fixing the corner of the bed because the fitted sheet had come loose when I heard a dramatic rip. The last set of JLO sheets were dead.
I've spent the last few weeks obsessively scouring the internet first, trying to find another new set of King Size JLO sheets on a resale site like ebay--no luck--and second, trying to research what brand/type of Egyptian Cotton sheets are the best and have that "cold to the touch" feeling and don't sleep warm/hot at all. There is an overwhelming amount of sponsored ad kind of information polluting the internet about this subject and I don't know what to trust because shopping for sheets isn't my specialty. I don't know how exactly to word the feel of these JLO sheets when searching google or reddit, this cool touch feeling they had, and I am at a loss.
On a side note: upon looking back at old reviews on the Kohl's website from 5+ years ago when they were selling them on their website, and newer Amazon third party reseller reviews of the same sheets, seeing a ton of 1-3 star reviews saying how much people loved these sheets when they bought them only to have them suddenly tear and rip early on--too early for such expensive sheets to be ripping. We always assumed they had ripped because our dog's nails were a bit long and he used to "burrow" like he was digging in the space between out legs and the mattress sometimes. But he is gone now, and our last set ripped so that all makes sense.
I would love to go to a store in person, and be able to feel samples of sheets before we buy them--money isn't an object, I just want to know where I can go where the sheets are out for one to feel/sample and not all in plastic packaging, if such a store exists. I would also like to know what brand/model sheets you have or have had that seem to meet my weirdly worded description of being super soft, but cool the touch.
Need high quality sheets, $ isn't an object, I just want the best. What to buy? Where to shop?
