I'm begining to think I don't want to own anything built after 96, appliances, cars, phones, it all goes down hill after that (with the exception of the iPod 4g).
My 30 year old whirlpool washer stopped spinning dry. A quick Google search and I was fairly certain I'd found the issue. Opened up the machine and sure enough the plastic coupler had broken.
Went to Appliance Depot (small local vendor), they hooked me up with a $17 coupler which is now a stronger design with metal reinforcements. He gave me some tips and 1 hr later my washer is working like new. And all it took was a bit of elbow grease and a few household tools.
The salesperson agreed with my general sentiment, don't ever buy anything new unless it's a Speedqueen. Showed me the build difference between the "comercial" Maytag and both models of Speedqueens, it is night and day. The commercial Maytag has some tough looking metal on the outside. But other than that, it is exactly the same as the residential models. Anyways, he thought I would get another 30 out of the washer.
