This is my 1935 CK-2-B16 GE "monitor top" refrigerator, which was purchased new in Westwego, Louisiana in 1936 by my great grandmother. It sat in the utility room at her house (also BIFL) until a few years ago when I dragged it home to use a mancave fridge. My regular fridge died a circuit-board death and in the meantime I used this one as my main fridge, and got so used to it I never replaced the other one. It's smaller than a new fridge, but for a single guy is perfectly adequate. I do have a deep freeze in my utility room as the freezer portion is about the size of 4 ice cube trays.

It just had a new cord put on it as when I moved it into the house I noticed the cord had developed cracks where it 90 degrees out from the socket. But it costs about $32 a year to run (way less than most new fridges), keeps a steady 35 degrees in the cabinet, makes a gentle whirring sound when running as it has no fans, and has a semi-automatic defrost cycle, which I have to do about every 8-9 months. It even has a foot pedal behind the left leg which you step on and the door swings open (called the knee-basher apparently). With the dependency on electronics in major appliances, I intend to keep this one forever (although, I am keeping my eye out for the larger size, which would give me about 3 more cubic feet), as theoretically, the hermetically sealed refrigeration system and the simple mechanical controls could last theoretically indefinitely.
