I know this probably sounds too crazy to be true, but my dad (nearly 60) owes about $200,000 on 10-15 of his credit cards, and still owes $400,000 on his mortgage. He’s been telling us he’s managing his monthly payments but I think that’s a lie. Last week someone from the court came to our house and said one of his credit card companies is suing him if he doesn’t respond to the court with a payment plan in the next two weeks.

At this age my dad should be paying off the last of this loans and getting ready for retirement. Instead he’s in $600,000 of debt. Especially after this court issue last week, it’s only a matter of time before his other credit cards in collections follow this same route.

I’m getting really scared for my dad. I don’t know if it’s embarassment, but he won’t talk about this situation with anyone, nor is he open to selling the house. Obviously my dad needs to get rid of this house, but does anyone have any advice for his credit card debt?
