We're trying to refurbish an old steamer trunk - one of the things we're doing is lining the trunk with some quilted material so it can be used as a bit of a 'hope chest'. I'm not concerned about value/patina/authentic materials or anything. If you take a look at these 3 pictures you can see that what SHOULD be a solid sidewall has been chipped away almost to a 45 degree angle. I'd like to square that back up so it's flat like the rest of the walls. As you can tell from the other pics this does not need to be pristine when it's done, just similar in profile. The picture I took with the square doesn't make it as obvious as I'd like, but if you look at the shadow line you can see how much of the wood is missing. Is this something I could just fix with multiple layers of a 'bondo' type material? Should I cut the whole thing down to a 45 degree angle and go with that? or maybe cut it down to a 45 and find a small piece of molding that fits and build it up with that? This won't need to take a lot of use - probably opened and closed a dozen times a year. via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2KvUmFx
