My wife and I have some medical debt piling up due to a complicated pregnancy. After so much stress and watching numbers climb, our baby was born at 24 weeks, and passed away roughly 6 hours after her birth.
Since she was alive for a period of time, we were given both a birth certificate and a death certificate (rather than considering her death something like a miscarriage).
Does the fact that she essentially lived and then passed away have any effect on the balance of bills due related specifically to the baby's care? Or would a medical facility typically still expect payment for the care of someone who has passed away? I'm sure all of this could be answered by contacting these facilities individually, but I just want to have some background knowledge of what I can ask or suggest to them before going into conversations with hospitals and insurance companies.
