Greetings all, Man, I’m hoping to get some financial advice on jump starting my life and I’m just gonna lay it all on the line and be real frank about where I stand at age 30. After spending most of my adult life, besides my time in the military, addicted to drugs, I have finally been able to get to a place where I’m ready to become a contributing member of society. I am striving for this to makeup for the time I have wasted in my life, as well as my significant other whom I plan to start a family with.
I just started a job at a textile mill down here in the good ol’ south. They start at minimum wage, 7.25, for the 3-4 week duration of training and then I’ll be making $10.20 (paid weekly every Thursday). I have no bank account so my direct deposit will be going to a prepaid green dot card I have. I have no car nor a stable place to lay my head at night, luckily my job is within walking distance. My credit is kinda crap, high 400’s low 500’s, due to a cell phone bill that was sent to collections years ago, as well as a few thousand dollars worth of medical bills due to emergency room visits since I didn’t have health insurance until now.
I don’t have people or family in my life that are able or willing to assist me financially. I do have a cell phone at least that my mother has on her plan. I really just want to do this the right and best way that would be most beneficial in the long run because I’m done and tired of fucking up.
So really my question here is or the advice I seek is how you good, intelligent people would go about building a normal life from the position which I am in at this time and acquire the necessities which I lack. I’m open to broad and specific advice and or comments. From what should be my priorities to maybe how much I save every week from my paycheck, what to work on first or what goals to set.
My goals thus far are to have my own place, a vehicle, decent enough credit to even just be considered for acceptance and start saving money for more ambitious life improvements down the line.
If you made it this far, I truly appreciate your time in reading my few insignificant words in a whole word of information. I’m wide open to constructive criticism and am grateful for any advice you may give to me, a complete stranger.
