So I bought a Filson Medium Field Bag (Style 232, ca. 2005) a little over a year ago and I have been trying to rid the bag of a musty / dusty smell. It’s in really excellent shape for a 14 year old bag, practically unused. I have tried stuffing it with dryer sheets and leaving it outside for days, spraying it with distilled white vinegar and numerous other methods but the smell still remains. I have reduced it considerably but it is still present. Short of throwing it in the washing machine (which I know wouldn’t be advisable) what else could I try to freshen this bag up?
I don’t wax my Filson twill products, but I do condition the leather so if the washing machine were to be advisable I could try it and just recondition the leather immediately afterwards.
