Hey all...I wanted some advice/ratings on my budget and finances.
I'm a single male recent college grad working as a Software Engineer.
- Income: $74k (after taxes $4,871) in the DC metro area
- 401k: $457.28 (to get employer match)
- Medical/Dental Insurance: $49.32
- Misc Benefits (LTD, Accident, Identity Theft, etc that employer gives but isn't tax deductible): $51.72
- Rent: $1,617
- Utilities (electric, trash, water, internet, phone): $340 (usually go under)
- Student Loans: $498
- Car Payment: $260
- Renters Insurance: $16
- Groceries: $300 (usually go under)
- Car Insurance: $105
- Gas: $100 (usually go under)
- Cat: $100 (usually go under)
- Fun: $500
I have $5,000 in a high interest savings fund for emergencies.
I feel like I'm doing OK...I tried sticky to the 50/30/20 plan...but I recently moved into a single studio because I just couldn't take having a roommate anymore. When I had a roommate...I had a lot more free money. I mean like overall around $700-$800 more a month.
I pay a bit extra in rent too so I have no commute, I live in an apartment right next to my work.
Hindsight...I like my car but kind of regret getting it. I got last year a new Toyota Corolla iM lease for $0 down and like some $500 college grad discount....but I think at the end I may buy out and just ride this thing out....so I guess I should start saving for that...
I think I am soon due for a promotion (going by several co-workers timelines and my performance reviews) and tbh maybe if not will try and look for other offers to get a little more...I think I can pull in closer to $80k in this area as a Software Engineer.
