Sup my dudes,

So today I was notified of a new hard inquiry from Verizon Wireless on my Experian report. I spoke to the fraud department and they confirmed that somebody had opened an account in my name.

I immediately placed a security freeze with all of the reporting agencies, filed a report with identitytheft.gov, and filed a police report. I have no plans of applying for credit in the near future, so I'll keep the freezes indefinitely. So far this seems to be the only thing showing up on my credit report, but I'll be monitoring my accounts very closely in the coming weeks to ensure nothing else pops up. I essentially just did everything outlined in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/wiki/identity_theft

I'm thinking this is all I can do for now, but I was wondering if there are any additional steps I should take going forward? Has anybody dealt with this before? If so, how boned am I? Should I move to Antarctica and study penguins?

Thanks for reading. I'm sure this post has been made a million times, but in the words of Dwight Schrute: "Identity theft is not a joke, Jim."
