It is a direct debit plan, which means that they withdraw a set amount of money from my account each month, always on the same day. I provided my checking account info when I applied for the payment plan online. I got a letter in the mail from the IRS confirming the payment plan.

My payments are supposed to be on the 20th of each month. I filed my taxes in April, so I was expecting the first payment to occur on April 20. It didn't. Two weeks later, there is still no IRS payment in my transaction history.

Is this a mistake or is this a normal part of the process? I'm concerned, because even if this is an error on the part of the IRS, I really don't want to lose my payment plan on a technicality.

I've always made sure the balance in my account was sufficient. I also called my bank and had them double-check to see if the IRS had attempted to debit my account - nope.

Does anyone have experience with this? If so, what is normal - are they typically late, or should the first withdrawal have happened on time? Also, what do I do in this situation?
