I graduated college 2 months ago. I found a job and im going to start work in about a week.
I have no idea how the US tax system works. I haven’t been to the US in almost 15 years. My parents are not US citizens so they have no clue how the tax system works either.
So i have a few questions.
1-Should i have already been paying taxes? I am 21 and i haven’t had any full-time jobs before. School-Uni->graduated. I had a couple part-time jobs when i was 17 and 19 but they payed about 400$ a month. Could it be possible that i owe something right now?
2-If i need to start paying taxes, how do i go about doing that? (My job will pay ~$40k per year).
3-Should i ask a lawyer or something?
I’d prefer not to wake up one day and it turns out i have to go to prison on the other side of the planet.
