Many of you who live in urban areas and even some large suburbs have probably seen many e-Scooter companies enter into the local market. These scooters are handy and cheap for quick transportation, with the standard fare being $1.00+$0.15/minute (this is true for the Lime, Lyft, and Uber scooters, Bird just increased their rates to $1.00+$0.29/minute).
But, as with any “microtransaction”, this can add up very quickly.
Here’s my situation. I live in downtown ATL and have to either 1) walk to work 15 blocks away (this can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes). 2) drive and pay $16/day for parking, or 3) take a scooter for usually around $2.25 one-way and get there in 5 minutes.
I took the scooters for 2 months and the grand total of my expenses was over $250 dollars. That’s a entire car payment.
I walk now.
