So my ex-bf and I broke up about 3 weeks ago. it’s been insanely tough on me so I decided I would give up on our lease and look into living solo. I ended up looking at apartments and found a really cute one. Thing is, it’s kinda expensive.. but it has all my basically needs. It’s super modern, washer/drier in unit. It 600sq feet. Comes with a storage closet right outside my door. Dishwasher and big bath. so it’s all I could ever ask for. Oh and it’s slap in the middle of my apartment rn and work so my commute will be cut in half.
The rent is 1245 plus my dog rent with is 25. Water is 25 Trash and pest is 15 So my monthly rent will be $1.300~ my bills total to 730~ which includes car, ins, school loan and gym etc. I will be getting rid of the gym since my complex has a really awesome gym/sauna area. I do have a phone bill but my work actually pays for that. Fun fact- my complex offers complementary breakfast mon wedn and fri from 6-9am! I think that’s pretty cool.
So in total my allotted income towards bills will be around $2,050~ give or take some.
I make 25$ an hour and I’m salary. I get paid weekly and my net income is $763. We get a bonus at the end of the year which varies depending on how profitable we are. last year my net bonus was 1400.
That would leave me with around 700-800$ a month to survive on(including my dog) I’m pretty minimalist so I don’t go out to eat much or buy a ton of crap.
I’ve never lived alone so this will all be new to me. I can’t sleep at night recently since putting in my application and paying the fee so I’m kinda stressed out.
Am I making a poor choice? My relationship was really toxic and I need to get out. My mental health is really suffering right now. I live in Chicago so rent around here is really high and the unit I found seemed doable given it has everything I need and want.
Advice? (I do have money saved for the security deposit and pet deposit. will have small emergency fund after everything though)
