I am a 25 year old with a not so big networth but also very minimal expenses. I have all my accounts (checking, savings, and credit card) with bank of america. I never really considered changing banks until I traveled abroad for 3 months. I experienced alot of problems and fees when trying to access my money via atms through my checking account as a Bank of America customer. I vowed to change this. This also opened up the door for better savings and credit card accounts.
I realized that for the money I am keeping at bank of america in my accounts that I am receiving very low benefits. My goal is to start traveling again during June and to move and work abroad before the end of this year. For a checking account I am thinking of going with Charles Schwab. I got this recommendation from alot of the fellow travelers that I met and from my own research. For savings, I am thinking of joining Ally Bank as they seem to have a good savings account and if I were to start running out of money, their minimum is very low. For credit cards I am not sure which one to get. I had a cashback card from bank of america and I think a cash back card is good. I am looking to get one with more cash back. I think that the DircoverIt card is probably my best option.
Based on my goals of travel and living abroad in the near future, what do you think I should do? More importantly would it work if I got accounts with different banks? For all my purchases I use the BoA credit card and then I pay it off with a transfer from either my debit or savings and get charged nothing. Would something like this work for these three banks that I just mentioned?
