I’m super late to this game. I have been very lucky in my family’s support, and have received a very generous weekly stipend while I have been in school. Because of this, I have always been very casual about my spending habits, knowing I can always ask for more. However, a recent health scare has really stressed the importance of having emergency savings to me. I also graduate in the spring, so I want to use the next 6ish months to set myself up for success when I transition to fully supporting myself. What’s your best advice for getting organized? Where are some common places to cut costs? What non-essential expenses should I prioritize? So far, the last two months I have categorized and listed my expenses on a spreadsheet on my computer, and taken some time to analyze where I could cut costs. For example, I had some app purchases that were totally unnecessary and just syphoning money from me. I currently have my checking account, savings account, and credit card linked in case a big purchase comes through unexpectedly. Should I set up a separate savings just for emergencies?
