So I am going to be 23 this year and am working on finishing my second semester ever of college. My goal is to get my associates degree at my community college and eventually find an occupational therapy program that is a combined bachelors/masters or at least accept my credits from a community college. I had to take loans out because I can’t afford to pay tuition off right away. That being said, my loans aren’t horrible. Currently I have $3500 in loans and I expect it to be around the same in my future years at this school. Last year I made $15000, but that was also before I was enrolled in school. So far this year I am making approximately $150 a week because of my focus on school rather than work. I don’t pay rent, currently living with boyfriends family (bless their souls). My income just about covers my typical bills, such as phone, car insurance, gas, medications, and my unrelenting addition to nicotine (juul sad face). I have a credit card through capital one with a $300 limit and have been doing my best to keep up with the payments. The worst I’ve done is go $2 over the limit. My tax return was pretty good considering I’m a student now and I received around $2000. The first thing I did was pay off my credit card and pay a few other bills here and there. I’m left with $600 left over and I’m not really sure what to do with it. I feel like I should have some backup money in case my car breaks down or there is a medical emergency etc. But I also feel like I should put some of it towards my school loans (the loans don’t start accumulating interest till 2025). I was planning on starting a savings with my boyfriend, but he isn’t quite on the same page as me about saving for the future. I would love advice on what to do with my surplus, but also any tips in general about how to save my money, pay my loans, and also build my credit. P.S. I know it’s impossible to do all three, but that’s why I want to hear from you guys! Thanks so much :) Ally
