Hi everyone, first time posting here
I recently gave my notice at my current job with a good job lined up after my final day. It is literally a dollar less than what I’m making right now but it’s something I am more passionate about.
I gave my official notice Monday with me working my last day April 12th. Yesterday my bosses boss contacted me and asked why. I was honest and told her that while I am grateful for the last two years in my position, I do not feel it lines up with my skill set. She replied back and asked if I was open to taking another role with the company primarily a back office role. I said I’d be open to it and I am going to keep all opportunities open, but I have a few questions that I didn’t ask her.
Background: I work for a major bank with a footprint primarily in New England and New York State.
My questions are the following:
Could my employer come back with an offer with pay that would be significantly less than what I make now? Like I said I’m making a dollar less with the job I may take but I’m okay with that. Would they come back with something like “oh we can put you in this position but it’s gonna be $5 less than what you are making now.” I don’t believe there are any laws regarding doing this but if an employer wants to retain talent I think they’d be stupid to pull something like this
If my current job gives me an offer I can’t refuse, what would I want to say to the organization whose offer I accepted? What’s the most professional thing to do?
Thanks guys
