At least two companies that make smartphones and other devices have received subpoenas from a New York grand jury related to how they used Facebook user data they received under deals with the social networking company.
These deals, which have mostly been discontinued, were used to provide specific Facebook features and access to Facebook accounts on apps and platforms from third parties. Facebook says they were widely publicized and scrutinized at the time.
The investigation shows how far Facebook must go to regain the trust of regulators and the public after two years of scandals related to privacy and security.
