My mom just leased two Subarus. I trained her on what to look out for and how to negotiate. she did not sign for any extended warranties or any other protection packages. A few days later, she received a letter from the car warranty company saying thank you for your purchase of this warranty etc. When she called them to ask and said that she had never signed up for this, they said well the dealer signed you up for it and you have to contact them. So my mom looked at her car papers, lease agreements, all of that stuff and saw absolutely nothing on there about this. When she called the finance person, he said that they just have to meet a certain quota and shenever paid for it and all he did was put her name down on the list and she doesn't actually have the warranty. She took that at face value and called me and told me.
My mom called the warranty company back and they swear she does truly have the warranty service and each car, the payment was for $660. My hypothesis is that the dealer did this behind the scenes and never even told my mom and that while she never explicitly "paid" for it, they inflated the cap cost of the leases to compensate.
Does anyone have experience with this? I've certainly seen dealers sneak something onto the lease, but never heard of it happening this way. I want my mom to get that money back.
