Hello all! First post, new to the forum.
I'm sure this has been posted before, but a money saving tip I've utilized with success is 30 day challenges. I thought 30 days of no buying coffee would be rough, until we started filling up travel mugs at home to bring into work.
Once we complete a 30 day challenge, its ok to "treat" ourselves within reason. We've upped it a notch with year long plans - for 2019 we can only eat out every other month. No take out or restaurants for February, April, June, August, etc.
At first I found awkward to explain to people I interact with socially, but once I got comfortable with normalizing it, it felt really freeing.
EX: I generally bring in my lunch to work, but coworker X wants to go out for a burger. "Sorry, it's no eat out month - next time." When I felt embarrassed and like I had to explain myself, it felt shaming. Owning your frugal habits, however quirky, is important.
