Mint Mobile is hitting Reddit pretty hard with advertising for their prepaid service, so I thought I would give it a try. My current low-cost prepaid worked well ($30 a month-with auto pay), but given that Mint is advertising an introductory offer of $20 for 3 months with 8gigs a month data, I thought it was worth checking out.
Anyway, my phone simply didn't port over. I checked coverage and compatibility on their website. My LG (LGL 62) is unlocked. It simply didn't work even though all available information said that it should. Granted, Mint was great about refunding the initial $20. However, I've spent about 8 hours labor trouble shooting and switching numbers back and forth, and my phone will be out of commission for more than 48 hours by the time this is done with significant hassle associated with missed calls and communication.
Thankfully, my old provider is being very helpful in getting my service back to normal and thank goodness I didn't throw out or damage my old SIM card.
Anyway, just an FYI that the opportunity cost of trying the introductory offer is potentially much higher than it appears and make sure you keep your old sim card and account information if you are tempted to give Mint a try. If you don't have a significant amount of free time over the next 48 hours, you might want to think twice about attempting a switch.
