to keep it simple, the shape I'm making is an approximately 4" cube but without a top or bottom. It doesn't need to hold up to serious abuse, but I'd prefer it to not crack with light pressure.I don't have much access to supplies as I am actually living in Japan at the moment so the language barrier at the hardware store is a bit difficult, but I purchased some "instant cement" https://ift.tt/2Xrs16x and it seems pretty brittle. I did NOT mix this with anything. Here you can see it's pretty fine, there isn't much in the way of larger stones (etc): https://ift.tt/2Ss0WMU, I'm sort of limited to Daiso and other random stuff for the moment, but I bought some silicone baking molds just to try casting the stuff and found that casting around 1/2 the stuff easily breaks in half without much effort https://ift.tt/2Xrs1Dz (to be fair, it's possible it hasn't fully cured, but it's been at least sitting overnight).I would like the general look of cement, industrial, but able to be finished with wax or a clear coat. I could probably get away with using this quick concrete type mix, but might have to go thicker on the walls and this is a desk sitting lamp thing I'm making and don't want to end up with a 50 pound desk lamp :).I've of course googled a bit but haven't found any really specific info. If anybody had any suggestions or advice I'd really appreciate it! via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2tJQ82w
