Two weeks ago I turned 29 years old and got mortgage free today, this very day! I am so glad, I can't even describe how I feel, I never thought I was the person who could achieve this. I started working when I was 13 years old and never gave up, teachers never believed me, but I proved them wrong. I hope I am allowed to be damn proud, because I am! Love you!

EDIT 1: A lot of people want to know more detail.

I basically started working at 13, very low paying job, but it worked. I had saved up a bit over $11k when I was 16, then I did a private money lend to my mom who needed exactly $10k to build another bathroom in her house, she then discussed with the bank, but I took the oppertunity to ask her to lend from me, she got the loan for 5,3% from me over 3 years. I made $2k from that.

Now I was 19, halfway through my apprenticeship as a residential electrician taking as much overtime as I could, now I was worth over $44k, some money from doing electrical work at others home (even though it is not legal), some from my grandparents (around $5k in total), then I worked another year as an apprentice (it's 2,5 years apprenticeship to become an electrican).

When my whole apprenticeship was over, I had bought a car in cash (old car that my work offered me to buy for $1,4k) and around $65k, this was obviously huge for my age, almost unheard of in my area. I did already know a bit about stocks, but I decided to not go for individual stocks, but some norwegian index funds. I kept saving and adding money to it, taking as much overtime-work and freelancing at others houses (lots of freelancing to do as an electrician).

When I was 26 years old, I was worth over $540k (after lots of very hard work and living VERY frugal at my mothers parkway, yes you heard right, I lived in a caravan for years, only going inside at my mother to help her do some electricial worke etc.)

When I finally turned 27 I had grown my index funds from $540k to almost $620k, life moves on and I turned 28, now I had a bit over $700k saved up, but I was very depressed at the time, no motivation what so ever, so I started to binge fruits, lots of fruits - to the point where I would feel dizzy, but I got over my depression and took up a loan, I thought that would be better than freezing my ass off in the caravan, which I did for 8 winters!! I took up a mortgage and paid it off in under a year!

I have to thank my amazing family for giving me a lot of work to do on the weekends, without them I wouldn't have made such a huge amount of money in such a short time with no other than a high school diploma and a skill. I am an electrician, and I am damn proud!!
