I have had insurance since I was 18 (am 31 now) and every other year I get a new pair of glasses. Really should have been doing it every year but when you gotta pay over $250 for a single pair it makes you not want to get them as often as you should.
Well today I finally listened to my wife and went to a different eye doctor. I've always gone to target. They have my previous prescriptions and it's just easy, there's one right next to my house.
Well at her behest we went to a different place. They advertise 2 pairs for $60. And I told her it was b.s. and it was. For two reasons.
-
My prescription is absolutely terrible. It costs more to keep them from weighing a half pound. That means I need to use a different kind of material for the lenses which isnt plastic.

We have insurance. That price is for people without insurance.
So at the end if the day a single pair with my insurance only cost me $10. And that was for the visit. The glasses them selves didn't cost a thing. I could've gotten a second pair at a discounted rate off my insurance (because the first pair used up my yearly allowance of $250 towards lenses and frames) but they'd have cost $164. And no thanks.
Btw the way my insurance works is my yearly exam is covered up to $40. And then I get $250 to spend on lenses and frames. At target I'd use that $250 and then I'd have to pay atleast another $250 out of pocket. Screw that. Never going back.
The lesson to be learned here is to shop around. Not everything costs the same in every store. That and listen to your wife.
