For instance, many cheap mechanical watches can last for many decades if you take care of them. But, if you want them to last, you will have to spend a few hundred dollars every 5 years or so, to have them washed and lubricated. It is not much, but it takes a few hours to a qualified worker, so it will always be at least more than the price of a cheap mechanical watch.
When the watch is worth less than the cost of the service, do you just buy another ? Or do you accept to pay more than its price to maintain a BIFL item ?
