I have a finished opening in my house in which we would like to install a double door door privacy and noise. The opening is framed out and finished with jambs and trim. The frame does not include a stop and does not look like it has ever had hinges installed. My issue is that the door width is odd, the minimum width is 55-5/8" which is too small to install a set of standard 28" doors. The opening height is fine - 80-1/2". With the opening as finished as it is, it seems silly to have to modify the opening via framing it out more (or trimming back) which leads me down the path of modifying the door.So my questions are:is a 28" door actually 28" or is this dimension nominal?Am I overthinking this? should I just plane ~1/4 - 3/8" off a pair of 28" doors and call it good? I feel like I am probably best to have the planing done professionally if I go down this path. Are there alternate approaches? we could do a barn door on one side, but we think that standard swing doors are a little more safe with mischievous young kids afoot.I think the path forward is along the lines of #2 but would appreciate feedback and/or tips.thanks! via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2I0s2uI
