Big thanks to my grandpa for letting me use his woodshop!I sourced the wood from Lowe's. All pine 2"x6"s and 1"x6"s. The 1"x6"s were very crooked but I was able to get them to do the job. I would recommend using thicker boards and jointing/planing.I'm very much an amateur in woodworking and would love any suggestions on what to do in the future. Thanks!http://bit.ly/2Rmcs0M is about 5' 9\" Roommate for scale.Me starting the project in the shop in Kansas.I glued three 2\"x6\" together, jointed them and sanded them down to a 4\"x4\" post, then mortised 3/4\" slots for the slats. After this I moved the parts home during Christmas to finish the project. After routing all the edges for a softer look and feel, I sanded the sides and glued the ends together, while using screws for the longer slats, that way it can be taken apart and transported more easily.A quick assembly test before staining!Stained, lacquered and fully assembled, but not safe yet. I used a satin lacquer.Wood block and tenon combo for the longer slats. My dorm before adding the loft. After! I drilled the tops of the posts with a 3/16\" and dropped 16 penny nails in to hold the bed in place on top, which is especially good that I waited because my measurements were an inch too long. (Whoops!)Decided to put my LED light strip to good use.I still have some cleaning up to do, but it's ready for either a futon or some other furniture. Any recommendations? Comments?
