As I understand, REIT is a US specific real estate category monitored by the SEC. iShares has a global REIT that includes real estate companies from France, Australia, Japan, Canada, etc. I looked up those companies, and there seems to be no indication that they follow the US REIT in paying 90% of profits as dividends. So are the non-US real estate companies not REIT, they are just normal real estate investments lumped into a "Global REIT" fund?
