Had a vehicle clip my cars driver side mirror and break the unit while i was at away at work a few weeks ago. Scheduled an appointment with the nearest service center and they declared it would cost $225 for the part with a cost of $125 for labor.
Mortified, I declined and went online looking into my options. Pulling up a video illustrating step by step instructions for replacing the driver side mirror of my particular make and model, I searched online and found a compatible part for $55 dollars and selected a rush order for an extra $23 to get it within the next 3 days.
A Phillips and flat head screw driver, a 10mm socket wrench and a cautious hour checking and rechecking my work later (cars have some unusual clips that hold things together so breaking one of these would not have been a fun prospect as they are not as easy to replace) and my new mirror was installed with the door paneling reinstalled and my car back in order.
