I have two children, aged 1 and 2.5. All the ladies at daycare love them and say they "fight over" having them in class. I don't say that to gloat because I'm sure they tell a lot of parents that, but want to preface that I don't have terrible misbehaving kids that are a handful. They're very easy to watch.

Alright, so to the story. I previously had the kids enrolled in a daycare that cost me $260 per week for both kids. Due to neglect (poopy diapers that weren't changed and gave my kids rashes... my kids telling me to "shut up") we looked to switch.

We found another daycare closer to home that had fine reviews and was actually $235 per week saving us $25 per week. This seems like pocket change to many, but $25 per week is $108 per month and $1,300 per year after tax. I already meet the max deductible amount for tax purposes, so this $1,300 goes straight into my pocket.

To recap:

Old Daycare: $260/week

New Daycare: $235/week

We got a notice that rates were increasing in 2019 which is normal and my wife just started writing the checks for the higher amount, but I checked my statement and noticed cost went up to $257.70. That's $22.70 more every week. That totals $1,180 per year.

I'm torn on what to do. My kids have better care and it's closer to home but the old church building is a little run down. Was I just spoiled that the price was low to begin with? Do I have room to negotiate with them? Do I have a right to complain or am I being petty? I know the government supplements daycare programs to a degree with meals etc., but don't know how much profit they make.

My wife and I arent loaded, but can afford the more expensive cost of daycare, but maybe my pride is getting in the way of wanting to pay so much more. I mean, we don't have cable TV because price. We always shop around to get the best deal on services like trash even if it saves us $5 per month. To just get slapped with $100 per month cost with really no added benefits hurts.

What would you do?
