For context I'm a 22F in university and my rent is really expensive. I managed to pay it last year (thanks to working crazy hours at my part time job) but I found that my diet really declined as I was just eating whatever I could get for cheap (some days just a £1 share bag of crisps etc.) and that had a huge effect on my mental health. This is my new meal plan:
Breakfast - 23p tesco porridge pot / handful of blackberries (always buy from reduced section for approx £1.15 per £150g and this lasts me 3 days)
Lunch - 40p Sainsbury's Tomato & Three Bean Soup, Be Good To Yourself (400g AND counts as one of your five a day)
Dinner - £1.50 tinned tuna with seasoned couscous
Snacks - thankfully my parents left me stocked up with "treats" such as cup-a-soups and lots of chocolate etc. over christmas so these shouldn't be taking a hit out of my budget! As opposed to what I was eating last semester which consisted of lots of £1 (SINGLE cups) of green tea from Costa and £2.50 cappucinos on the way to lectures, or lots of £3.50 wraps from takeaways and £3 "meal-deals" etc. that barely keep you filled up for long. I only drink green tea and water now and if I do want a tea on the way to university then I make it at home and take it in, or take the tea bags with me and get free hot water whilst out. I've got a long way to go but I want to make 2019 the year I get a hold on my spending and finances, for real.
