Hi everyone. I've recognized a problem I have and I'm hoping you can help.
I'm good at finding a deal or thrifting things when I decide to buy them. But I'm not as good at recognizing when I don't need something in the first place. I want to get good at not wanting things, but I don't know how.
I'm a 24 year old woman, and I just recently graduated university and started working full-time. Before, I wouldn't buy things because I couldn't. But now I actually make money and it's getting harder.
I'm trying to pay $1000/month to my student loan (38k total). But I keep being tempted to spend my money on things that I think might improve my life, that I don't necessarily need.
I try not to be susceptible to advertising, but some of it is sneaky. Like when your favourite youtuber reviews a product and you realize you want it too.
The other day I bought a cordless vacuum. But I already have a corded one! I bought it so I could vacuum the kitty litter every day more easily, but really I was just being lazy because I could easily sweep it. I just don't.
Anyways. I just want to get better at not wanting things. At sticking to a budget and being happy just the way I am. I'm always looking to improve my life, but more than half of the things I buy don't even make me happier.
Words of wisdom would be much appreciated.
tl;dr: I want to stop wanting things and just be happy with what I have.
