The purpose of this post is to get folks to talk me out of wall mounting a 15 lb television to the side wall of a MDF entertainment cabinet. This is much less costly (by about 2/3) compared to the proper method involving mounting to the 24" spaced studs behind the cabinet using a mount with at least a 28" arm extension. The MDF cabinet was installed by the previous homeowner. The sidewall I'd like to mount the TV to consists of two 5/8" MDF boards screwed and--hopefully--glued together making the sidewall a total of 1 1/4" thick.Since many seem to strongly discourage heavily stressing screws drilled directly into MDF, my plan is to use tee nuts to reinforce the connecting bolts. Since I can't find any tee nuts which are long enough to span the entire 1 1/4" thickness of the MDF sidewall, I am going to get a few tee nuts which are 1" in length at Home Depot here:3/8 in.-16 tpi x 7/16 in. x 1 in. tee nutsFirst question: Is this approach idiotic and asking for trouble?Second question: If the general idea isn't idiotic, am I asking for trouble if the tee nuts are 1/4" short and don't span the entire length of the MDF cabinet sidewall? If being a little short isn't trivial, where can I find tee nuts longer than 1"? via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2V5YTAH
