I started doing this a few years ago when I was in a rush and had no gift tags. I constantly forget to buy them and have done this for a few years, but now that money isn't so tight, am I being cheap?

I'll usually wrap the present, then take a black or silver sharpie marker and 'draw' the text right on the wrapping paper. I'll usually do bubble letters, or Times New Roman, or my attempt at calligraphy, and sometimes there's a little doodle too.

I'm not an artist by any means, but I had kind of thought that spending a few minutes doodling was at least as meaningful as using a sticker I purchased at the store. Less wasteful too, if only a bit.

What do you other frugal folk out there think? Good idea, or am I being cheap? I ask because I've done it for 2-3 years at least and yet no friends or family have thought it worth adopting, so I wonder if I'm "that guy."
