I live in a place with brutal winters and I can often wake up to 1-3 inches of hardened snow and ice on the top of my truck and windshield that is too thick and "on-there" to simply scrape off with one of those tiny cheap brass bladed ones. My latest cheap gas station scraper just shattered and scratched the fuck out of my wind shield mid-scrape so I was prompted to make this post out of desperation because this is like the 5th one I've bought in the past 2 winters.
It seems like there's 2 main types of ice scrapers:
-
The cheap brass ones, they're good for thin layers of freezing rain but useless for thick ice.
-
The cheap plastic ones. You can find these everywhere and they're functionally very nice, especially with their length, they work great but they end up chipping and breaking after you subject them to striking thick ice.
Ideally I'd like something with the shape of the #2 scraper but with a brass scraper than can withstand striking, but I'm not sure if it exists. I'm honestly tempted to just buy some kind of blunt metal or rubber self defense tool like this to keep in my glovebox and smash the shit out of the ice because I'm tired of buying new scrapers. Something with a long handle that I could scrape off the top of my truck without having to climb in the bed would be great.
Anyone have any recommendations? I'd appreciate it a lot.
