Over the past few years I've built up a healthy emergency fund, about 10 months of expenses worth. This weekend my furnace gave up the ghost and today I'm having a new one installed. When I met with the company to get all the expenses laid out they said I could finance for the next 10 years at about 6%. I told him that I was just going to charge it.
It's good to know that I'll be able to pay it off in full, pay no interest, and also get some bonus points from my card, which basically lowers the cost as well. I don't have to change anything about the way I'm living, all my bills will be paid on time, and I still have plenty of cushion for emergencies.
Seriously, everybody needs to make sure to get that emergency fund built. Having the freedom to not worry is relieving. Sure I'm not excited to drop money to pay for this, but at least I'll be done and not have the bill hanging over my head for years.
