Hi PF,
Longtime lurker here. I am 22 and will hopefully be graduating college in May of next year.
Last summer I took an internship with a local company that I ended up keeping once school started and this week my boss offered me a permanent full time position in May if I want it.
I’m super excited, but she disclosed the salary with me and after talking about job duties paused and mentioned that she remembered I wanted to save up for a house, and asked “do you think that will be enough to meet your goals?”
I’m not sure if this is a green light to negotiate or how to respond, so I told her I would think about it. The salary is 42k per year with decent benefits and I have about 12k in student loan debt. I don’t have a lot in the way of savings, just about 2k. The COL in my area is fairly low as it’s mostly rural. Is it worth it for me to try to negotiate with her before I accept or would I be fine?
