Not sure if this is the right place to post.
I work in an industry where 90% of meetings, functions and interactions have to include alcohol. For the most part, it will be paid for by the company, so money isn’t really the issue.
Don’t get me wrong, I like a glass of wine and a good chat now and again, but several times a week with the same work colleagues / industry people? No thanks. I much prefer the simple life - to go home and relax, have a cup of tea and read.
It is increasingly hard to “get out “ of attending such functions but I just don’t enjoy constantly drinking for the sake of it like so many of them do. The older generation of this industry are basically overweight/ill functioning alcoholics.
How do I get out of having a drink without looking like a “party pooper”? I know I could just refuse but honestly the s**t you get for not joining in is ridiculous. Not looking for “change jobs” advice as the day to day job is good and I enjoy it, but looking for some creative excuses not to drink...anyone?!
