I hope this is the correct subreddit for this, if not, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I consider myself pretty frugal by nature, but I will splurge from time to time if I see great value in a product. Right now, I found a deal through Best Buy for the Pixel 2. Its full retail price is 649.92, but if you upgrade a phone through Verizon's payment plan, you will pay $14.58/month for 24 months for a final price of 349.92 (the lowest price I've seen a Pixel 2). When I go to checkout on their webpage, there is fine print that I will be taxed for the full retail price of $649.92. How is this even legal? That's an additional $28 in tax instead of being taxed for my final price of $349.92. If something is on sale for 50% off from $10, you don't get taxed on $10, you get taxed on $5.
